Lessons Learned from Stephen Covey
One of the interesting people I got to meet this year is Dr. Stephen Covey. He presented at Microsoft earlier this year. It’s one thing to know the information; it’s another to experience the delivery live. This post is a bit longer than usual, but hey, hey Covey has lots of insights. Here are some of my highlights from the session.

Intellect Is not Intelligence
Training the intellect does not result in intelligence. Rather, intelligence comes into being when one acts in perfect harmony, both intellectually and emotionally. Continue reading
Motives and Motivation
Secrecy was such that Jordan Duckitt, 18, one of the young people who lit the cauldron, said he went alone to the ceremony: “Some of the other seven had their mums and dads there but I had no one as my parents had jetted off on holiday and I couldn’t tell anyone about it. I just kept it to myself, as I didn’t want it leaked out anywhere. It went so quick, the noise from the crowd went straight through you. You could feel the emotion in the stadium and I couldn’t sleep after because of the adrenaline.” Continue reading
Our Calling in Life
I like the word “calling,” but I think it gives us a false idea about our life’s work. I prefer the word in its plural form — “callings.” I’ve been “called” or “prompted” by an inner voice many times in my life. These callings have taken several forms — the impulse to change jobs, to relocate to a different country or city, to begin or end a business relationship, to give up a full-time job in order to care for a relative, etc. Continue reading
You have to be something yourself…

Viktor Frankl: Why to believe in others
Turn your attention away from it by throwing yourself into work for others
Have thy heart in heaven and thy hands upon the earth. Ascend in piety and descend in charity. For this is the Nature of Light and the way of the children of it.
– THOMAS VAUGHAN
You are responsible for whatsoever you are.
If you are miserable, you are responsible.
Don’t throw the responsibility on anybody else, otherwise you will never be free of it.
Because how can you be free if I am responsible for your misery?
Then unless I free you, you cannot be free;
if it is in my hands.
And if it is in my hands,
it can be in somebody else’s hands.
Those who are with me have to understand,
howsoever hard and painful it is,
you and you alone are responsible,
for everything that is happening to you,
has happened to you, will happen to you. Continue reading
