With Our Questions We Make The World

December 30, 2020September 4, 2021 / onetusk / Leave a comment

With our questions we make the world. Questions open our minds, our eyes, and our hearts. With our questions we learn, connect, and create. We are smarter, more productive, and able to get better results. We shift our orientation from fixed opinions and easy answers to curiosity, thoughtful questions, and open-minded conversations, lighting the way to collaboration, exploration, discovery, and innovation. I have a vision of workplaces and a society—of individuals, families, organizations, and communities—that are vibrant with the spirit of inquiry and possibility.

“Question Thinking is a system of skills and tools using questions to expand how you approach virtually any situation. You develop the skills to refine your questions for vastly better results in anything you do. That begins with asking questions of ourselves and only then asking them of others.”

Wild Hearts and Wild Ideas

November 27, 2020 / onetusk / Leave a comment

My guest today is Niki Scevak, co-founder and partner at Blackbird Ventures. Blackbird is a leading VC firm in Australia and New Zealand and has invested in companies like graphic design platform Canva and autonomous vehicle company Zoox. Our conversation covers the types of wild ideas Blackbird invests in, the landscape of venture and start-ups in Australia and New Zealand, and everything Niki knows about gross margins and customer acquisition. We also introduce a new concept on the show I’m calling Breakdowns, where we dive into a single business, what it does, how it operates, and what makes it tick. I hope you enjoy the conversation.

Pay, Force or Persuade ?

November 5, 2020November 4, 2020 / onetusk / Leave a comment

There are times when we seek to get other people to do something we want or need them to do. We can pay them to do so: that is economics. We can force them to do so: that is politics. Or we can persuade them to do so because they and we are part of the same framework of virtues and values, rules and responsibilities, codes and customs, conventions and constraints: that is morality.

Find People Who Are What You Want To Be

July 1, 2020June 29, 2020 / onetusk / Leave a comment

“Changing careers is not merely a matter of changing the work we do. It is as much about changing the relationships that matter in our professional lives. Shifting connections refers to the practice of finding people who can help us see and grow into our new selves, people we admire, would like to emulate, and with whom we want to spend time. All reinventions require social support. New or distant acquaintances — people and groups on the periphery of our existing networks — help us push off in new directions while providing the secure base in which change can take hold. Working Identity – Nine Unconventional Strategies For Reinventing Your Career

June 29, 2020June 29, 2020 / onetusk / Leave a comment

Here are nine unconventional strategies for reinventing your career: act, then reflect; flirt with your selves; live the contradictions; make big change in small steps; experiment with new roles; find people who are what you want to be; don’t wait for a catalyst; step back periodically but not for too long; and seize windows of opportunity

Leadership and Moral Rejuvenation of a Society

June 10, 2020June 10, 2020 / onetusk / Leave a comment

Man is essentially an imitating animal. This is a psychological truth. Students can be disciplined only when teachers are well behaved. The minor officials of a country cannot be kind and honest when the rulers are corrupt tyrants. Children’s behaviour depends entirely upon , and is ever controlled by , the standard of purity and culture set by their parents . The moral rejuvenation of a society in any period of history can take place only because of the example set by the leaders  of that nation.
