Grace often dawns in the heart in a mysterious way. When it happens, we are awestruck; we are pulled into a state of wonder. Freedom from fear and doubt is the surest sign that we have received the grace of the Divine. Thereafter, worry and grief disappear forever. This is what the scriptures call “immortality.” This immortality does not refer to the immortality of the body. It is the knowledge of the immortal self. After gaining this knowledge, fear associated with the decay, death, and destruction of the body vanishes. The person is free from fear of bondage and desire for liberation. Such a one is a jivanmukta—one who is liberated here and now.
