ONE TUSK 
Easy enough to say; and, if we were all exactly the same, in terms of psychological make up; and had access to the same services, counselling, education, health care; and had our base needs met, food, shelter, love; then yes I would agree, our lives are consequent of the choices we make. Until that day dawns; it does sound harsh.
