Sheryl Sandberg’s life-affirming tribute to late husband Dave Goldberg: ‘I want to choose life’

Sheryl Sandberg knows she will never stop grieving for the loss of her husband Dave Goldberg, but one month after his sudden passing, she wants to choose life.”I think when tragedy occurs, it presents a choice. You can give in to the void, the emptiness that fills your heart, your lungs, constricts your ability to think or even breathe. Or you can try to find meaning,” Sandberg wrote in a heartbreaking and remarkable Facebook post on Wednesday.

This marks her most extensive and candid public comments since Goldberg, the beloved chief executive of SurveyMonkey, died suddenly from a severe head trauma while on vacation last month.

“These past thirty days, I have spent many of my moments lost in that void. And I know that many future moments will be consumed by the vast emptiness as well,” she continued. “But when I can, I want to choose life and meaning.”

Brilliant Book that was presented to me by a fellow spiritual aspirant. It is not a well known book but well worth a read.

I need a needle so that I can put people together…..

“It is reported in the life of a great Sufi mystic, Farid, that a king came to see him. He had brought a present for him: a beautiful pair of scissors, golden, studded with diamonds – very valuable, very rare, something unique. He brought those scissors to present to Farid. He touched Farid’s feet and gave him the scissors.

Farid took them, looked at them, gave them back to the king, and said, “Sir, many, many thanks for the present that you have brought. It is a beautiful thing, but utterly useless for me. It will be better if you can give me a needle. Scissors I don’t need; a needle will do.

The king said, “I don’t understand. If you need a needle, you will need scissors too.”

Farid said, “I am talking in metaphors. Scissors I don’t need because scissors cut things apart. A needle I need because a needle puts things together. I teach love. My whole teaching is based on love – putting things together, teaching people communion. I need a needle so that I can put people together. The scissors are useless; they cut, they disconnect. Next time when you come, just an ordinary needle will be enough.”

Thought for the Week – 11th May 2015

“It isn’t the changes that do you in, it’s the transitions.

Change is situational, transition is the psychological process people go through to come to terms with the new situation.

Change is external, transition is internal.”

How Long Has It Been?

How long has it been since you kissed your mother?

How long since you held her hand?
How long since you took the time and the trouble
To show her how straight you stand?
How long has it been since you’ve kissed her cheeks?
How long since you made her proud?

Love

1 If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.

2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.

3 If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing.

4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.

Stay in one spot and go deeper and deeper there!

The land is parched and a man digs a well to find water for his thirsty plants and gardens. He digs for many hours in the place recommended by the water diviner but he finds nothing and gives up in disgust. He has dug about four metres.

As he sits dejectedly on the great mound of earth he’s removed from the hole, a traveller passes by. The traveller laughs at him for digging there, and indicates a much more likely spot. So the man starts a new well, but after digging for several hours, he has still found no sign of water.

Attempting to dig a well at Ft. JacquesTired and despondent, he finally accepts some different advice from his young neighbour who assures him that he’ll find water in another place altogether. After he’s given up on that one too, his wife comes out of the house and says, ‘Where are your brains, old man? This is no way to sink a well. Stay in one spot and go deeper and deeper there!’
